We've been on the road for about 6 months now and have stayed in many different campgrounds/RV parks and this may rate as the best of the trip. Certainly, as far as setting goes, it's wonderful. It's set in the middle of the desert surrounded by miles of undeveloped land. The sites are huge and widely spread out. There is a mix of pull thru and back ins with many large enough for any size RV. Each site offers a table, BBQ and fire pit. We heard coyotes every night and had an abundance of various birds frequent our site. There is labyrinth of trails that leave each loop of the camp sites. They go off for many miles and connect with several other trails that wind throughout the area and are friendly to both hikers and bikers.
This is a wonderful setting with amazing views-- at least from space C 25. No fancy amenities-pools or cable TV and the WI-FI is iffy at best but the location is outstanding.
If it weren't for the location I would not recommend this park. It's expensive, old, worn and is basically an parking lot. What makes it worthwhile, in some respects, is what it's close to, i.e. the Pacific Ocean that is just across the street-- a major 5 lane roadway and the Huntington Beach town, itself, is close by. They do have pet walk areas (2) but our dogs would not use them, for reasons only they knew. There is a city RV park, on the ocean side of the road, that I would try next time.
This a very nice state park and the bonus is that it has a natural hot tub--not real hot, mid 90's. Very nice setting, clean restroom/showers and pretty cheap. The sites are not always real level but adequate. We've stayed here twice, recently over the MLK holiday weekend and had to share the place with several more people then earlier in the month-- it was very lightly used back on 1/8/08.
Very nice park. Large sites, nice amenities, pet friendly with good walking area just outside the park as well as a large fenced pet run inside, friendly staff, lots to do in the area.
The sites were passable but the shower/restroom area were very poor. The men's side was unheated, most of the lights were out and the initial shower water came somewhere between dark brown and black with a sulfur smell--I waived the shower that day.
This was a very nice park. Well laid out with generous sites, good dog walking area and close to town. The shower/restroom areas were possibly the nicest we've seen on our 4 month RV trip. The laundry was totally adequate and the whole park was obviously kept very clean and maintained.
I noticed a fairly negative from a previous RV'er and I have to wonder why. This park is on the pricey side, that's true, but the amenities are very good. We've been on the road for several months and dropped back to this park 3 times, now. We actually tried another park in the area and left as the spaces were extremely crowded and came back here. The sites are spacious, the park is clean as are all the buildings we've used. It is very pet friendly. This place is large but not so much as it should push you away. We've found it to be filled with friendly. helpful folks.
